Visits from family and friends brighten the seniors’ days and keep them feeling connected always. Yet our seniors health and safety are also important. While you can’t get out of the house with your elderly parents, you can still have a blast with them at home.

Here we bring some activities to keep seniors busy and help them escape boredom.

1. Play Board and Card Games

Mental engagement or mind games are important to staying healthy and energetic. Playing word, puzzle, or card games can help keep their mind active. Crossword, Sudoku, Monopoly, and solitaire are great examples of interactive games that are interesting and can keep seniors engaged. You can also enjoy these games with them.

2. Learn a Skill Together

We don’t believe that you can’t teach an old man new tricks. In fact, we believe that continuous learning is important and good for healthy living. Most seniors are as sharp as they were when they were young. To keep those cognitive abilities up and to get great bonding time with them try learning something new together. There are thousands of tutorials on YouTube and other social platforms that teach everything from watercolor painting, poetry, crocheting, gardening, knitting, and more. These are just some of the great activities that can keep retirees busy.

3. Cooking and Baking

Cooking and baking are ideal ways to spend time and make a boring day interesting and fun. If the aging adult you’re caring for has a passion for food (cooking), prepare a list of delicious meals that you both can prepare together. This can include comfort foods from their childhood or fine-dining favorites. Make sure to plan these meals before the time since grocery shopping isn’t as easy.

4. Exercises

Physical exercise is important to stay active, fit, healthy, and stave off boredom. Most retirement homes have a daily routine for seniors that includes a good amount of physical exercise, including yoga, cardio workouts, and more. If you have seniors living with you, try setting a fixed time to exercise together. You can include resistance band workouts, dumbbell strength training, chair exercise, and simple yoga poses that anyone can do.

5. Have a Movie Night

Watching favorite movies in the comfort of home is always an enjoyable way to spend time and developed a bond with elderly parents. Dedicating one day for seniors to watch movies with them is the perfect opportunity for them to escape reality for a while and enjoy the with heart.

Seniors living alone can put them at risk of developing many health issues. In this, the caregivers play important role in keeping seniors healthy and happy. These indoor activities will keep you and your seniors having fun for hours at a time.
